The official press release for the PartArt4OW First Demo Day is now available.
Held on 19–20 February 2025 in Badalona (Barcelona, Spain), the event brought together six pioneering Participatory Art Initiatives (PAIs) at the headquarters of Fundación Épica La Fura dels Baus to present innovative projects addressing critical ocean and water challenges through the intersection of art, science, and community engagement.
Over two days, the venue was transformed into an immersive exhibition space where artists, scientists, and citizens showcased solutions ranging from sustainable materials and virtual reality experiences to ecological restoration projects and documentary works. These initiatives demonstrate how participatory art can foster environmental awareness and drive tangible action for ocean sustainability.
The Demo Day also featured panel discussions on scaling impact beyond local contexts, as well as a Mutual Learning Exercise focused on collaboration between artists and scientists. The event concluded as a milestone moment for Europe’s emerging community of participatory practitioners working to protect ocean and freshwater ecosystems.
PartArt4OW (Participatory Art for Society Engagement with Ocean and Water) is a Horizon Europe project supporting interdisciplinary initiatives that combine artistic practice, scientific knowledge, and civic participation to promote ocean literacy and inspire environmental action across Europe.
